Cyber Crime

!±8± Cyber Crime

There is a very old and correct saying that goes on to say that a coin has two sides. Like a coin, almost every aspect of life has two sides. For example, take the advancement of technology and the crime associated with it. With the improvements in technology, computers have formed an integral part of the working world. Computers along with them have brought greater work and time efficiency in the working circle of the world as a whole. However, there is a dark side to this as well. Along with all the benefits that computers and technology comes the rising and alarming threat of cyber crime.

Thanks to the crimes committed by the hackers and predators, the good bring the evil. The dangers that cyber crime is posing to computers and information stored in the computers is real. The affects have been felt by almost all the countries. Serious concerns are rising against the growing threat of cyber crime. This potential threat to the information possessed in the computers is alarming. The reason that cyber crime is posing a serious threat is because most countries around the world have no existing laws against it. This leaves us all at the mere mercy of the same technology that we use for good and they use for destruction.

One resort that you can take against cyber crime is installing ant-virus, spyware, and security programs. This is still unfortunately; it is not a full proof step. Hackers can easily hack through the computers of others you know and work with. This makes the data stored in the computer more open to these attacks.

One reason why cyber crime has been gathering so much of attention, is the fact that cyber crime has no boundaries. Cyber crime is breaching national barriers with ease. This is jeopardizing the political and the defense strategies of the country. It is reported that after committing the crimes the hackers reap rewards. They sell the information they stole to other countries and businesses for large sums of money.

There is another reason why cyber crime is becoming so common. Hackers operate together from different places. This makes it harder for law enforcement to track and find them. Hackers usually operate from different countries and through multiple networks making tracking them almost impossible.

It is time for national bodies and governments too operate together. Making a legal framework and structure through which no hackers can slip through before committing these cyber crimes.

Buying a Computer? Ask These 3 Questions!

!±8± Buying a Computer? Ask These 3 Questions!

Before Why You Need a computer?

If you are a new user or advanced one, if this is your first computer or second (or third) will be clear why you want a computer, before you even think of buying one.

How you use your computer? Are you only interested in surfing the Internet and retrieve e-mail? Do you plan to use your PC as a machine programming? You desktop publishing or video editing feature on the agenda? Or is it a gaming platform? What is a computer?http://www.hardwaresoftwarearticles.com

Consider these factors before entering into a hardware store.

The basic components of a computer is the motherboard (with processor and memory), keyboard, mouse, monitor, floppy drive, CD-ROM and hard drive.

In addition, there are several other types of equipment that should not be. A trackball, joystick, modem, tape drives, zip drives, printers, plotters, scanners, sound card and speakers, TV card andvideo capture card, to name a few.

Whether you buy these will depend on what you need the computer for and which software applications you intend to use.

Remember the golden rule: the fastest or most expensive computer is not necessarily the one you need.

Finally, the length of time that you plan to own the computer before replacing it will also help determine which computer to buy.

2. What is your budget?

This is the next thing you need to be certain of. How much are you willing to spend on a PC?

After you arrive at a figure, keep a margin of a few thousands. It will give you some room for flexibility. If you are short on money when you buy your computer and cannot add all the peripherals you want, be smart.

Buy as much as you can afford. Don't cut corners on the main system unit (monitor, processor, memory, disk space).

Remember, you want the computer to last at least four years. You don't want to run out of disk space or memory in the very first year, all because you trimmed down on the memory or got a smaller hard drive.

Hard disk capacity matters a great deal as it takes no time for data to fill the available space. A 40 GB hard disk is sufficient disk space, but 80 GB is the standard recommendation.

Random Access Memory is the amount of memory available for use by programmes on a computer. One of the important factors to ensure the smooth running of your system is the memory available.

The more the memory, the better it is. Make sure you can upgrade your computer's memory as and when required.

The RAM chip comes in capacities of 128, 256, 512 MB, even 1 GB. Most computers function efficiently with 256 MB RAM, though a 512 MB RAM does offer you an edge.

Hold off on the printer or a software application and other accessories that you really don't need right away. You shouldn't have any problem installing these after the original purchase has been made. Just ensure you buy components that are compatible with your system.

3. Should you go for a branded PC or an assembled one?

Assembled machines are popular because they are more economically priced.

Branded PCs cost around 35 to 40% more than their assembled counterparts.

Besides, you can choose your own specifications with assembled PCs. You are not forced to accept a rigid component configuration. You cannot customise a branded PC to suit your exact requirements.

With the same price that you would pay for a branded piece, you will be able to own a superior assembled PC.

Make sure the components purchased for the assembled PC are original. Take along an informed, reliable assembler to purchase the components so that you are not fooled by counterfeit parts.

The advantage of a branded PC is the reliability of the brand, the after sales service and the technical support. On the flip side, the after sales services and repairs offered by the brands are a tad expensive and not prompt most times.

Don't forget to look at the warranty. Generally, a warranty period of a year is normal for all major parts of the PC. But there are good brands that offer either more years or the option of an additional payment to top up the warranty period.

Talk to your friends and colleagues who have assembled PCs. Ask them about their experience and recommendations on whom to approach. Question them as to what happened when they had a problem. Was the individual easy to access? Did he offer prompt service? Does their computer give a lot of trouble?

If possible, meet two or three individuals before you finally zero in on one.

Spend some time on these three issues and you will be all set to buy your very own PC!

Go Paperless on a Budget

!±8± Go Paperless on a Budget

So, you've decided to go paperless. You're not going to get any argument from me. Uncluttering and de-stressing by getting rid of the piles of paper in your life is a great move and one you won't regret.

You might be surprised to learn that you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to make the transition to a paperless office or home. There are a number of easy ways to go paperless on a budget, using tools that you might already have.

1. Reduce paper at the source

The first, and almost always free way to dramatically reduce the paper in your life is to reduce the amount of it that gets to you in the first place.

These days, most banks, vendors, utilities, and other businesses offer a paperless option. Sign up for it. Not only are you helping the environment, but you are making your life easier too.

Just make sure that whenever possible, you download your statements to your computer so that you don't have to worry about things only being available online for a certain amount of time.

2. Use The OCR Software And Scanner You Already Have

While I usually recommend a high speed scanner with a document feeder like the Fujitsu ScanSnap, if you are on a budget chances are you already have a scanner built into an all-in-one printer. Using a flatbed scanner will be slower, but it is do-able.

If you don't have or want a scanner, believe it or not you can even use the camera on your mobile phone. Many people do their scanning this way.

If at all possible, I recommend making your PDF documents searchable. Doing this is called Optical Character Recognition, or OCR.

Chances are if you already have a scanner, you already will have OCR software that came with it. Use that and you should be fine.

3. Use The Document Management Features Built Into Your Computer

While document management software is great, chances are you can get by with the built in features of your operating system.

Sort your documents into folders, and if you have made them searchable, Mac users can use Spotlight (the box at the top right of your screen) to search for information inside the PDF. Windows users can use Windows Search that is built in to recent versions of Windows, or you can download it for free if you have XP. Google Desktop is also a great option, and is free as well.

4. Make It A Habit

Most importantly, going paperless will not work if you don't make it a part of your regular routine. You don't need anything fancy for this. Just set up a reminder in Google Calendar, Remember The Milk, Outlook, or whatever you already use for reminders, and set it to remind you to do your scanning every few days. When you break it up like that, it makes it very easy to keep going.

These are some simple, and in most cases free, tips to help you go paperless on a budget. Good luck!

10 Steps to Building a Bankruptcy Practice

!±8± 10 Steps to Building a Bankruptcy Practice

Many lawyers have tried to build a bankruptcy practice in those days. Many make the fatal mistake of using outdated methods of evaluation of the practice from the ground, and end up being also-rans in their area. The competition is fierce, and lawyers are working smarter - not only more difficult - to be successful.

10 steps to building a successful failure practice

Join the National Association of Consumer Attorneys of failure: this is the largest national organization dedicated toNot the consumer debtor. With well over 4,400 members bankruptcy lawyer, is the best source of information and training for new and established operators alike. NACB also runs several very active mailing list members to exchange information. Buy the full Consumer Law Center, National Library - including the failure of the consumer book: NCLC presents the most comprehensive set of books on bankruptcy, consumer protection and related matters. Period. After trainingBankruptcy law for more than 14 years, I still have my books on an almost daily basis. If you go to a convention of the NACB, you will find books NCLC for sale with a significant discount. Try the software packages used to prepare the petition and what they like best: you can not practice bankruptcy law, without preparing a package of petitions. There are a lot of good out there - BestCase, EZFiling, Bankruptcy2010 and Bankruptcy Pro are among the best - but do not know what the bestfor you until you sample them. All provide a free downloadable demo to work through, so take the time before spending a dime. Go to court: Find out where your court's bankruptcy hearings are held, and make plans to sit there each day for a week or more. You'll learn about the trustees as well as about the types of people who file for bankruptcy in your area. Once you know more about who files for bankruptcy you'll be in a better position to know their motivations and concerns. Sign up for CM/ECF: Most courts require bankruptcy lawyers to file cases electronically via the court's electronic case filing system. You need to get a password and (in some places) attend a training to learn how to file cases. Get a scanner: Bankruptcy is a paper-intensive practice area. If you don't start scanning everything into your system now, you'll get snowed under. I personally use a Fujitsu ScanSnap, and it's a life-saver (plus, it comes with a fully-functional copy of Adobe Acrobat). Start reading bankruptcy blogs: There are a lot of terrific resources online to help you keep up-to-date on the latest issues in bankruptcy. Bankruptcy Law Network, BankruptcyProf Blog, and Bankruptcy Mastery are just a few substantive sites that can teach you a lot. Learn how to write: Yes, you know how to write like a lawyer, but that's not what's important. You need to be able to communicate in a way that your prospective clients understand without a dictionary. Writing like a lawyer is OK for judges, but clients need you to make it easier. Online legal marketing basics: Most people start their search for a bankruptcy lawyer by hitting a search engine, so it's important for you to know about the underpinnings of online legal marketing. Start a blog, set up Twitter, and consider if marketing your practice with video is right for you. Start compiling forms: Your bankruptcy practice will require you to be organized, so things like intake forms and retainer agreements are critical. The best places to find these are other lawyers. If you're on the NACBA listservs, just ask and ye shall receive - there's no reason to pay money to get canned intake documents.

Best Practices paperless office - Establish a standard naming convention for your paperless office

!±8± Best Practices paperless office - Establish a standard naming convention for your paperless office

The concept of the paperless office is a reality. And with today's technology is cheaper and easier to reach even a small home office. To maintain the success of "paperless office", it is important for you to establish a simple naming convention for all your electronic documents. If you follow a well-defined naming convention, it is easier to find documents, use again and again and stay paperless office.

A naming convention is simply a well-structuredIt set the standard for electronic documents. Keep things simple and you can understand logically, so that anyone can easily access your documents, and follow your naming guidelines.

For example, a simple and logical name are the bills for your home:

[Date]. [Company]. [Type]. Pdf

With this convention, you can share your captured "bill" statements have the following fileName:

2010_01_01.ComEd.bill.pdf 2010_01_15.Verizon.bill.pdf 2009_12_15.Verizon.contract.pdf

Immediately, only to look at the file name, you can say that these documents are the electricity bills and telephone bills. You can also immediately identify the dates for each statement invoice. In the last example, you can quickly see that this is the agreement "contract" with your phone service.

This is just a simple example of a naming convention. WhenDefine your own naming standards, maintain a structure that best support as you think and organize your office.

And not for the stress on your naming structure perfectly at first. The nice thing about a paperless office with all your documents in electronic format (copy) files on your computer you can easily change your standards and naming tree of folders in the future.

I recommend the "data" used in the first part of the file, andFormat as [YYYY_MM_DD]. Use the full [four-digit year], then [two-digit month] and [two-digit day]. Following this special format for dates before all the file names, then you have the opportunity to view the file, the type of "name", so you have another way to quickly obtain the documents in chronological order within each folder.

How to develop and maintain your paperless office for the simple naming convention, along with a logical and well-defined"The tree of folders" will go a long way to keep your electronic documents organized and efficient.

Dell Vs HP

!±8± Dell Vs HP

This is a problem with me, if a customer asks for a recommendation, to combat what PC to use in their environment. The answer is never a clear decision to do a few questions to clarify a concern of four things, pricing, availability, reliability and customer service. It 'a hard thing to explain, and have someone understand that all four of these concerns are unique at the same time and fully connected.

That's what I found in myExperiences.

When it comes to price, usually cheaper than Dell. Buy HP than strategically, and build their machines differently than HP. On the one hand, Dell, with few exceptions, is based on measuring all of their machines. They have orders in hand and are 90% guaranteed their money before they ever ship a car, especially on the lucrative consumer side, where the margins are very healthy. HP instead, pre-built much of their units and must rely on intelligent, intuitiveMarketing to make their money. This also means that HP has additional costs, which Dell has not withstand such a massive inventory reduction.

The downside of this is directly available for HP-corner. The HP models ordered today and will arrive tomorrow, and Dell has a standard 7-10 day construction period. Heaven help us if a part is not available for the construction, then the lead time, which, when pushed to do so. Dell does not provide complete their deliveries onlyEstimates. If you need to become a project where you absolutely need to work a particular place at a particular time, HP is the best choice from Dell.

Dell tends not to standardize the internal parts of all their machines. This means that if you are 100 Dell Optiplex 960 (or any other model) with the same configuration to take to open yourself, you will notice that 1GB stick of RAM from different manufacturers each have the power in each of its different manufacturers , hardUnits, etc., the same thing.

HP has standardized parts in a series or pattern. Take 100 and you will find NV516UT consistency and uniformity throughout the building. The RAM is the same hard drive, DVD-RW, power, etc. HP also has a greater depth and breadth to its portfolio of HP brand products, so if you need your office and desktop equipment HP, an HP switch, connected to an HP server with HP storage-dependent ... No problem! If 'Printer, keyboard, mouse, scanner, fax, UPS, external HD, etc, HP can do everything.

This is important, depending on the degree of standardization, looking at a machine in your environment. If it is not important, or at least moderately important, Dell is just fine. If it is very or extremely important, HP is the best choice. Why? The answer is that every manufacturer of various components in a machine that QC is according to different standards. A stick of RAMKingston will be subjected to various tests as a stick of Crucial board, or axioms, o. A hard drive from Seagate will be different from the same form, fit-function trip from Axiom, Fujitsu, Hard Fantom, Western Digital, etc.

When it comes to service, this is a bit 'as the question of reliability ... It 'a matter of taste. Both companies have their strengths and weaknesses. Dell offers an excellent forward with the construction of their warranty and ease of implementation, the guarantee issurprising. If the service number (serial number) for the machine and have authorized the purchaser, Dell can help with almost all the problems that this machine. HP has a warranty against mediocrity, but additional levels of support are pretty cheap to add. Call 1-800-HP-INVENT can sometimes attempted, but usually goes pretty smooth. HP where all previous records in the on-site support, especially for server and storage products.

So at the end of the day there is no realWinners and continue my struggle. I just need to hear what is important to you and then decide if Dell or HP to better meet your needs. Maybe I'll decide that Lenovo and Acer fits better than two. What my clients are convinced that IT Info Guy is an adequate solution found.
